Cinnamon Spiced Stewed Apple

  • Author: alanakrahe
  • Total Time: 25 minutes

Description

These cinnamon spiced stewed apples are delightful for their antioxidants and gut strengthening benefits. You can enjoy warm or cold for breakfast alongside some porridge or muesli, or try cold as a snack or desert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 organic apples (Red Delicious, Pink Lady, Royal Gala, Granny Smith or your chosen apple variety)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of water

Instructions

1. Peel 4 apples, leave 4 apples unpeeled to increase the pectin content (see notes) and then dice the apples into evenly sized pieces. It’s fine to leave the skin on all the apples if you like, it will just make the stewed apples texture a little more fibrous.
2. Add the apples, water and cinnamon to a medium sized saucepan and cover. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally for about 15-20 minutes or until the apple pieces soften and start to break apart.
3. Remove from the saucepan and serve warm or cool depending on your preference.

Notes

  • You can store in the fridge for about a week and enjoy added to breakfasts or as a snack.
